July 18 - Dixon - Wisconsin - Iowa - Rochester Minn

Thanks for the Bed, Washer and Dryer, Meals and for showing us around town.

Today we went from Dixon Ill to Rochester Minn through the far soutwest corner of Wisconsin and across North East Iowa.





I saw several signs for this store..and thought it a bit strange

Between Hanover and Galena the GPS told us to get off the hwy and take BlackJack road..Never would have found it but it was 15 miles of very nice Motorcycle Road....Actually I was surprised how Northwest Illinois and NE Iowa had a lot of nice riding.

The elevation hear was around 600 feet. Not much for as far as the river has to go to get to the mouth.

Sure there's lots of corn, but at least the road wasn't flat and straight.

We woke up this morning to the sound of thunder, I went down to the breakfast in the hotel lobby, and after watching the weather report (Thunderstorms in the Durham area, and along our route toward Wilmington, I figured for sure we would get wet, so the rain cover went on the luggage, and the camera was packed away so we didnt take many pictures again today, although about half way the clouds lifted and Doris got out the camera and took a few. We started seeing Tobacco fields today (i think) a first for us. We saw several but mixed in with lots of Corn and other crops. We have been told that Kudzu, a non native viney plant is taking over a lot of the wild areas in the south. We saw a lot in Georgia, I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but it looks like it to us. You can see it climbing in to this tree in the picture. July 13 - Philly and DC

Tuesday we rode from New Castle up to Philadelphia, Toured Independence Hall and saw the Liberty Bell, then Headed South toward Washington DC Doris took a couple of pics of the Liberty Bell...The second has Independence Hall in the Background. I was hungry and found Mom's..voted best of Philly Cheese Steaks(by someone) But it seemed like a good time to try one. W e took the tour of Independence Hall, where the Continental Congress met and wrote and approved the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. The Penn. Supreme Courtroom, the First US Supreme Court also used this room, and issued its first decision here. Back on the road today we went from Top Sail south to Charleston SC, and wandered around Charleston for a while this afternoon. We rode through one of these brightly colored weather events today. There was a black cloud in front of us, and I came around a corner and saw a veil across the road. We stopped and quickly put the GPS in the saddle bag, and put on the seat cover. Didnt have time for our rain gear, but probably wouldnt have put it on anyway. The rain only lasted for a couple of miles, but my arms and upper body were soaked to the skin after the first quarter mile. Doris took some pics from the bike today after the storm.
