June 30 - Dragon And Blue Ridge Parkway - Asheville

Image
Got the shirt to prove it! Today we rode the Tail of the Dragon Rt 129 on the border of NC and Tenn. Afterwards we headed up to Cherokee NC and rode for a while on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and stopped in Asheville NC for the evening The Dragon is the route to the left on the above shot A sample of what the gps showed on the way back out of the dragon. There is a rock slide on the Tennessee side, so it is not a through route right now. So you get 318 curves on the way in 318 on the way out and 1 U turn in the middle I think that adds up to 637 Curves in 22 Miles A shot during the ride At the turn around A couple of pics from one of the overlooks on the way back out. At the Deals Gap resort after we rode the Dragon Just a few bikes in the Parking Lot for a Wednesday Morning Below are a few pics Doris took on the way to Cherokee Fog on the water Folks playing in the river in Cherokee We saw a lot of these Bear Totems? in Cherokee The rest are of the Blue Ridge I didnt really know they

The above is an updated of the States we have ridden in so far on this trip Rode from Nashville to Robbinsville NC yesterday...Mostly avoided interstates and finally saw some really nice rural country. Keep in mind that virtually all these pictures Doris took while we are moving TVA Nuke Plant From Tellico Plaines we took the Cherohala Skyway..the light yellow route on the map. 40-45 mph speed limit (I never got close) 40 miles took over an hour...Great ride. I figured a new trick with the GPS I can take "Screen Shots" that it saves...This one I took for the elevation. After 2 weeks of 90 degrees plus, 70 at 5300 feet felt COLD...but it was a good cold T This on I took of the road looping back below us. Scenery along the Skyway BTW Anyone planning to visit who likes a beer or glass of wine after the day is done..Robbinsville is a dry town..I think the whole county might be. It only took me an hour of walking around town to figure that one out...lol Tomorrow we slay the

We just ran straight up from Birmingham to Nashville today, we got in early so we had time to drive out to opryland and find out that due to the floods earlier this year it was closed till november...couldn't even get close enough for pictures. Countryside between B'ham and Nashville I did see on funny sign today...A double decker billboard. The top one was a bible verse...something like "Repent now or you will burn in hell" Below it was an advertisement for Mr Jim's Boobie Bungalo's We had a discussion about which sign got there first. The hotel we are staying in is on the location of a former Presidents home. Another Historic Sign Took some pics in the Country Music Hall of fame...couldnt use flash so the quality varies. Hank Williams Sr's Guitar A pic of the display of contemporary artists (For Laura) Broadway - Honky Tonk district Tomorrow we are heading for the hills between Tenn and Nc..no more straight roads!!!
